Riley fitzgerald
Riley began his training at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School in Melbourne, where he studied dance for three years. During this time, he made his professional debut in The White Prince by Stephen Agisilaou in 2014. Following this, Riley completed his Level 6 Diploma of Dance Performance at the New Zealand School of Dance in Wellington, where he had the privilege of training under esteemed mentors such as James O’Hara and Victoria Colombus. While in New Zealand, he also performed works by renowned choreographers Damien Jalet and Huang Yi as part of his graduate year.
Riley’s professional career took off in 2019 when he joined Sydney Dance Company under the direction of Rafael Bonachela. As a company member, he performed soloist roles both nationally and internationally in acclaimed works such as ab [intra], Lux Tenebris, Impermanence, and the critically praised Six Breaths. He also performed in work choreographed by Gideon Obarzanek.
In the following years, Riley relocated to France to join Ballet National de Marseille, where he performed works by La Horde, Tania Carvalho, Oona Doherty, Lasseindra Ninja, and Alexandre Roccoli. During his time in France, he toured extensively across Europe, further honing his craft.
Riley returned to Sydney Dance Company in 2023, where he has since performed in national and international productions, including Impermanence, ab [intra], I Am-ness, Somos, and Momenta by Rafael Bonachela, Forever and Ever by Antony Hamilton, Gubba by Beau-Dean Riley-Smith, and Love-Lock by Melanie Lane in 2024. Performing in iconic venues including The Kennedy Centre, The Joyce Theatre, Royal Opera House and the Odeon of Herodes Atticus.
In 2023, Riley premiered his new work Everyb0dy’s G0t a B0mb in collaboration with international composer Rami Khalife, as part of Sydney Dance Company’s New Breed Season. Riley also choreographed and featured in Parisian music group Aufgang’s most recent music video Hummus, which won ‘Best Picture’ at the 2024 French film festival Clips de Paname. The video has since earned Riley 2nd place for ‘Best Actor/Performer’ at the 2025 Berlin Music Video Awards.
In 2025, Riley premiered his work Everyb0dy’s G0t a B0mb internationally, leading ten Australian dancers to Mexico City’s renowned Festival Internacional de Danza Contemporánea (FIDCDMX) performing at the Teatro de la Ciudad Esperanza Iris and the Teatro de la Danza Guillermina Bravo.
